Going to a new gym, any gym, for the first time can be intimidating.
You tell yourself it’s going to be full of super-fit human beings who are going to look at you and wonder why you’re there.
The perception of CrossFit in the media makes this even worse. The amazing athleticism seen by some of the best makes CrossFit seem like it’s only for the very fit.
But, it really, really isn’t.
CrossFit is for everyone and anyone. Young and old. Girl or boy. The wannabe athlete or I just wanna get fit. Every sport has its elite. CrossFit is no different.
For most CrossFit is simply about moving. About challenging your body in new ways. Coming to each class, working hard and having a good time doing it.
It’s learning new movements and doing new things. Some you’ll be good at. Some you’ll find hard. Some you’ll enjoy. Others you won’t.
Every movement has a scale to it. A method of adapting the movement to make it harder or easier, but all designed to make you stronger and fitter and take part in classes, no matter who you are.
This is the joy, the frustration and the reward of CrossFit. Doing new things. Challenging your body and mind in new ways. Establishing goals and objectives you never had before. Switching off to all that’s going on around you, the distractions of the day, so you can try and master something new.
And doing it all in a place that not only encourages firsts but celebrates them, loudly!
